Beatles Abbey Road at 50, a one-hour special

September 27, 2019

Apple and Capitol Records have produced a one-hour special celebrating the 50th anniversary release of The Beatles’ Abbey Road on September 27th.

This broadcast features interviews with John, Paul, George and Ringo, as well as George and Giles Martin, interspersed with a handful of songs from this landmark album.

50 years ago, the Beatles recorded and released their last album. Abbey Road is a transcendent work, which seemed impossible after the bitterness between the group members during the sessions for their Let It
Be album. That record wound up being shelved for almost 2 years.

The music reflected the joy the Beatles felt during these recording sessions. To celebrate this landmark record's 50th anniversary on September 27th, The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd/Capitol/UMe have re- mixed and re-mastered Abbey Road and released it in multiple editions all with new stereo mixes from the original 8-track tapes by George Martin's son, Giles. There's the single disc album on vinyl, a limited picture disc
and cd, a 2 disc deluxe edition with 16 additional session recordings and demos, and a 4 disc super deluxe edition, which include 23 session recordings and demos.. The super deluxe editions have 5.1 surround and Dolby ATMOS mixes. All are available as digital download in standard, MiFT and high resolution formats.
