Last night at the Kennedy Center, David Letterman received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. At the ceremony, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder was there to perform in celebration of Letterman.

As Letterman is a longtime fan (and previous friend) of the late Warren Zevon, it was only fitting that Vedder performed a cover of Zevon’s hit “Keep Me In Your Heart.”

“Keep Me In Your Heart” is featured on Zevon’s 2003 album, The Wind, which was written after the late musician learned he had terminal lung cancer.

Zevon frequented both the Late Show with David Letterman stage and interview chair over the years—even his final public performance was held on the show in 2002.
