In October 1976 (and hundreds of other times), the Eagles performed “Hotel California.” But this particular performance—at the Forum in Los Angeles—was recorded and is now being released in honor of the 40th anniversary reissue of their iconic Hotel California LP.

The electric guitar breathes new life into an otherwise acoustic intro, and it sounds unbelievable. Just listen to the cheers from that audience!

The band is currently on a short North American tour through late-October with their recent lineup following the death of founding member Glenn Frey. Now, Frey’s son Deacon Frey joins the lineup along with country singer Vince Gill.

The 40th anniversary Hotel California reissue is expected to drop November 24. Rolling Stone reports that this live version of “Hotel California” is one of 10 recordings from the show at the Forum to appear on disc 2 of the deluxe edition of the anniversary reissue.
